The tournament once again lived up to its reputation as one of the richest and most competitive billfish events in the Gulf.
The 2025 Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic presented by B&T Marine and Gulf of America Stabilizers, marked the 28th annual running of one of the Gulf of Mexico’s premier offshore fishing tournaments, delivering a combination of strong participation, impressive catches, and substantial payouts. Held in Biloxi, Mississippi, the event attracted a fleet of approximately 87 sportfishing boats and hundreds of anglers competing over several days of high stakes blue water action.
The tournament lived up to its reputation as one of the most lucrative billfish events in the region, with a total purse of roughly $1.78 million awarded across multiple divisions. Teams competed in both weighed-fish categories—primarily blue marlin—and catch-and-release divisions, as well as additional categories such as tuna. The combination of optional entry levels and strategic participation allowed teams to significantly increase their potential winnings, a hallmark of the tournament’s format.
The standout performance of the tournament came from Team Breathe Easy, which claimed Grand Champion honors. Their victory was secured with a massive 660.3-pound blue marlin, one of the largest fish weighed during the event. This catch not only topped the leaderboard but also earned the team a total payout exceeding $600,000, making it the most lucrative single performance of the tournament.
Other notable finishes included Team Mollie, which landed a 602.1-pound blue marlin to take second place in the heaviest blue marlin category. Combined with a strong showing in the tuna division, Mollie secured a payout of over $270,000. Third place in the blue marlin division went to Black Smith, whose 500.3-pound fish earned a significant prize as well.
In the catch-and-release division, Team Fleur De Lis delivered a dominant performance, releasing five blue marlin for a total of 3,500 points and securing first place along with a six-figure payout. Teams Born2Run and It Just Takes Time followed with strong release totals, demonstrating the importance of conservation-focused competition alongside traditional weigh-ins.
Overall fishing conditions proved productive, with the fleet recording 64 blue marlin, 11 white marlin, and one sailfish over the course of the tournament. These numbers reflect a healthy offshore fishery and contributed to the excitement surrounding the daily weigh-ins, which drew large crowds to the docks at Point Cadet Marina.
Beyond the competition itself, the event maintained its reputation as a major Gulf Coast social and economic occasion. Anglers, sponsors, and spectators gathered for dockside festivities, ceremonies, and celebrations that highlighted the region’s strong sportfishing culture. The combination of high-dollar stakes, competitive angling, and community engagement continues to define the tournament’s appeal.
